Jervis Bay Challenge
The Jervis Bay Challenge 2009 will be held on the 14th & 15th November. Please note this in your calendar.
Jervis Bay is approx. 3 hours drive from Sydney and
Canberra on the NSW South Coast and is the centrepiece of the Jervis Bay Marine
Park. The Bay is approximately 8Nm long and 5Nm wide.
During the race competitors will sail past many points of interest such as
Callala Beach and Hare Bay to the North, Long Beach, Honeymoon Bay and Point
Perpendicular to the East. HMAS Creswell and Hyams Beach to the South,
Plantation Point and Collingwood Beach to the West.
Migrating whales are also a regular visitor at this time of year and join the
well known Jervis Bay dolphins, seals and fairy penguins frequent the bay and
are a common sight.
Skippers and crews are advised to come well prepared for a variety of
conditions. With long fetches, choppy conditions could be expected along lee
shores. Swell may also be encountered in some parts of the bay and good wet
weather gear is recommended.
Some of the legs are long so good preparation and chart work may pay off.
Binoculars may also be handy. Sufficient fuel will have to be carried in case
the need to motor home from the far side of the Bay arises.
Once again the JB Callenge is sponsored by
ROBERT OATLEY VINEYARDS
